Spotlight On: Essential Fatty Acids

Our bodies require essential fatty acids (EFAs) to support growth and the normal functioning of various bodily functions, including the formation of cell membranes, hormone production, nutrient absorption, immune system function, brain health and the regulation of inflammation. These polyunsaturated fatty acids are classified as essential as the body cannot produce them, which means we must meet our daily requirements from food and supplements. The two main types of EFAs are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
